He Slept While the World Imploded
Nobody expected him to survive the wreck, but almost a year later, he came out of the coma. When I heard the news, I rushed to the hospital.
“You look great,” I lied.
“I feel great,” he lied back.
Other than a scraggly beard, he looked the same.
“Eleven months I was out… Crazy.”
I nodded, thinking about everything he’d missed.
“I love catching up on news after a long trip. I think this qualifies.”
He looked at me, expecting an update.
He needed to hear about the pandemic.
“You didn’t miss much,” I lied again.
Let someone else tell him.
