Beyond Repair
She was on her back, under the kitchen sink.
“Can I get the wrench?”
He bent over the toolbox, grabbed a wrench and dropped it into her waiting hand.
“You don’t need to do this,” he said.
“I can try.”
“I’m talking about another ‘girls weekend,’” he blurted.
“I need it,” she echoed from under the sink. “When I get back, we’ll talk.”
“I don’t think so,” he countered. “You can’t fix it. Not this time.”
She slid out to face him.
“You’re not talking about the sink.”
They locked eyes.
“No,” he replied. “I’m moving on. It’s what people do.”
