Story of the Week

We’re Hitting the Ground Running

I’ve heard stories about Aunt Jackie and my crazy New Jersey cousins my whole life, but I’d never met any of them. Turns out, the reports were greatly under-exaggerated.

Seven cousins pick me up at the airport. Seven! We’re crammed into a minivan that looks like it escaped from a demolition derby.

Jackie’s in the back with the luggage because, as she bragged, “None a your fat asses would fit back here.”

Apparently we’re not driving fast enough for her. “Pick it up, already. I’m sweating my balls off, for Chrissake!”

They say she’s a Catholic school principal.

I believe ‘em.

Prompt: Four camels

In other news…

If your life has been feeling a little incomplete because you’re starting to feel like the only kid on your block who hasn’t obtained a signed copy of FAST FICTION: 101 Stories of 101 Words Each (vol. 1), relax. Your big opportunity is just around the corner. As they say in the trade, “We’ll be coming to a town near you!” (Well, as long as your town is in California, particularly in the East Bay, South Bay, or Central Coast). See my crazy schedule below for five chances to catch the FAST FICTION roadshow.

The big day will be on Saturday, April 29. For Independent Bookstore Day, I’ll be popping in at the following locations:

10:30-1:30. Morgan Hill: BookSmart, 421 Vineyard Town Ctr.

2:30-4:00 San Jose: Hicklebee’s Bookstore 1378 Lincoln Ave.

5:00-7:00 Pleasanton: Towne Center Books, 555 Main St.

Assuming I recover from that book blitz, the following weekend, May 6-7, I’ll be in downtown Pacific Grove for the Good Old Days street fair. Hidden in amongst all of the delightful and delectable offerings, you can find me at the Central Coast Writers booth.

Saturday 9:00am-6:00pm

Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm

Feel free to stop by, say hi, and/or lay a prompt on me that I’ll use to write a future story.

OK, I think I’ve worn out my welcome by now.

Keep those great ideas coming!

Scotty out!
