This week’s post will be short and sweet, and for the first time ever (I think), I’m not presenting my 101-word Story of the Week. Why’s that, you ask? Because I’m giving you my version of the 12 Days of Christmas: 12 stories that I’m hoping you might be able to take a quick peek at.

Here’s what’s up:

It’s time for the annual Monterey County Weekly 101-word story contest. You can submit up to three stories so I’ve gone through my inventory and come up with three categories (Serious drama, dark drama, and light comedy). I have four stories in each category. If you’d like to help me by going through my 12 nominees and casting your vote for the three stories you think I should submit, that would be swell. I’ll be submitting my stories by 2 pm Calif time TODAY (and by “today” I mean Thurs, 11/30).

I know—it’s a big ask. Maybe reading a dozen is too many. I’m open to whatever you can do. Maybe take one category and read those four stories. That works too. Drop me a quick line that says “I only read Category B and my pick is #834”

Feel free to email me at scotty@scottycornfield.com with your nominees for one story in each category (or whatever you can do). If you have additional thoughts or votes, feel free to send them along. Thanks again for your help. I’ll let you know if I have any success with any of them.

One final note about my strategy for this year’s contest: Although most of my stories are comedies, it seems like the the contest looks for different things each year. That being the case, I thought it might make sense to submit stories with three different sensibilities, rather than three of my favorite comedies. Will it work? I’ll let you know in a few weeks! Here’s a link to the stories. Story Link

In other news, I’ll update you next week on how National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) turned out for me. Short answer: It was a blast!

As always, thanks for listening!
