Random thought from college days: I never understood why I had to wash my towels since I only used them when I was clean.
This week’s adventure is going to be something different. Since I have no news on the novel front (while I wait to hear back from my editor on the latest draft), I’m sharing two stories for the price of one. The twist is that they were written several months apart but were inspired by the same prompt (“impervious”), generously sent my way from dedicated reader Susan Karen of Palisades, CA.
I’d love to get your spin on each story. Feel free to compare and contrast, however you must show all work and cite references where appropriate.

Meet the New Boss
The officers filed in as Capt. Tenson, their new commander, approached.
“Why is he called Capt. Teflon?” one detective asked.
“He has a superpower,” Johnson said. “Insults bounce right off him.”
“Thanks for being on time,” Teflon said.
“We were afraid of missing any pearls of wisdom,” Johnson said.
“Excellent enthusiasm!”
“Can we record this, Captain, so we can hear it again later?”
“Brilliant idea!”
“Is it really almost impossible to insult you?” another officer asked.
“Affirmative. I embrace feedback.”
“Maybe try embracing a toothpick. You got something in your teeth.”
Dead silence, then…
“Superb observation skills, Officer. Take note, men.”

Dress for Excess
Isaac wasn’t like the other accountants—especially when it came to fashion. Much to the chagrin of his co-workers, instead of standard conservative dress shirts, he favored bright and bold.
“That’s the reddest shirt ever,” one CPA said. “Did it come with batteries?”
Isaac was oblivious. “Isn’t it great?”
“Usually shirts like that come with clown shoes,” another said.
“Actually, it came with this awesome tie. Do they even have a name for this green?”
On his way out, their secretary whispered, “Is your hobby buying outrageous clothes?”
“No,” he winked. “It’s pissing these guys off. Today I’m killing it, right?”

And that’s gonna do it for this week’s adventure.
As always, thanks for listening.
