My writing tip of the day: Blunt pencils are really pointless. (sorry). The prompt for this week’s 101-word adventure has been collecting dust on the shelf for a while. It was submitted by (semi) faithful reader Peter L. of San Jose. Thanks for your generosity in sending the inspiration my way. And now on to the Story of the Week.
A Super Bowl Sudden DeathEven though they were all certified morons, Dutch’s gang frequently ripped off rival criminals, sometimes even successfully. After kicking in the wrong door (and apologizing profusely to the homeowner who pointed out they were one house off), they hit the right place, killing two in the process—including one of their own accidentally. Dutch’s gang fled without cash or drugs—only a ring box that thrilled Dutch. Later, he proudly displayed his treasure. “Finally got the Super Bowl pin that completes my collection.” “You collect worthless replicas?” one gangster asked. “Replicas? Yeah…I guess. But mostly cash. C’mon, we’re going back.” Prompt: Pin Collection (Pete L)
NOVEL NEWS & NOTES… While my novel (Questionable Characters) percolates with my editor, I’m moving ahead on the movie version of “Unfortunately, Not Everybody’s a Baseball Fan” (based on one of my short stories). This morning we’re doing a final location scouting trip to nail down a few locations where we’ll shoot the opening “date sequence.” We’ve already located the main spot where we’ll shoot the bulk of this epic tale (and by “epic” I mean our two or three-minute film). I’m looking forward to briefly returning to the world of filmmaking, and since I recruited a couple of colleagues I’ve been in the trenches with on numerous other movies, it’ll be like old times again as we get the gang back together (I’m talking to you, Charles and Stan). I hope to have something more to report about the novel next week. Until then… Thanks for being here. Scotty out
